Virtual projector

Overview

Given the popularity of online virtual worlds and the two that allow for user created content, Second Life and Croquet, I would like to create a virtual projector that operates like a real projector in every way possible. I feel such and item would come in handy in the near future.

Second Life progress

• 06/07/2007: Second life does allow dynamic lighting from set objects. Still need to figure out if it allows for focusing lenses and many other things.
• 06/28/2007: This might be cheating, but I think I may be able to get away with using a grid of lines that terminate in a dot when they hit a solid surfaces, think laser pointers. By making the lines 95% transparent and the dots 0% transparent it should give the illusion of being projected. Objects that move within the projection field would interrupt the image, essentially making it more projection like. So it's not exactly projected points of light, but it just might work. Converting video for it could prove to be very difficult, but simple text messages(think bumps) might work very well(less information to process and all).
